POETIC ODDS AND ENDS (2016 – 2018)

Em Poetic Odds and Ends, I appropriate details from the embroidery that composes the images of the project Troca, reinterpreting fragments to create a new artistic work that highlights nuance and poetry.

The project comprises ten original poems, each inspired by the words: balance, resilience, female, acceptance, persistence, therapeutic, swap, slow down, handmade, and freedom.

In addition to the poems, the project includes photographs of details—image fragments that do not explain, but rather suggest. These are images of holes, threads, and pieces of embroidery. After all, everything that leads to nothing serves poetry, as the poet Manoel de Barros once wrote.

Everything is presented inside a small box, an object that, to me, represents a vessel of treasures and emotional memories. I treat these small things as singularities and invite the viewer into a sensory experience: to open (or not) the box, to touch (or not) the photos, to read (or not) the poems. Since there is no predetermined order in the presentation of the poems and photographs, the viewer is free to choose what to see, in what order, and how to see it.

Poetin Odds and Ends embrace what is small. Here, the detail becomes the protagonist, and poetry unfolds between the lines.
